Chinese Ink Painting 'Two Vases' - Origional Art Work
This work is part of a series of four paintings created during my time studying in Taiwan 2024.
Presented as a pair of vases, reflect a compositional approach rooted in harmony and dialogue. Rather than existing as separate objects, they are positioned in response to one another—creating a sense of tension, balance, or quiet companionship.
Within the vases are varied flowers and leaves, introducing organic forms that contrast with the solidity of the vessels. These elements become a space for exploration—learning to use the brush in different ways, from broken, twisty hard brushing to more fluid, expressive marks, creating all variation and intersting marks.
Through this pairing of structured and organic forms, the work explores both composition and technique, where movement, variation, and balance are held within a single arrangement.
The flowers chosen are ones familiar within an Irish context. Although the work was created in Taiwan, the subject could just as easily be found in my Cork studio, bringing a sense of home into the piece and bridging both places through shared, everyday forms.
Size: approx 300 × 600 mm
Material: Ink on Xuan paper (natural fibre). Due to the nature of the material, slight texture, buckling, or creasing may occur as part of the process. Works are sold unframed and can be flattened/stretched and framed on request with additional cost. Each piece carries my red seal.
