Chinese Ink Painting 'Two Cats' - Origional Art Work

This work is part of a series of four paintings created during my time studying in Taiwan 2024, featuring two cats and exploring composition at a larger scale.

It reflects techniques developed through my ink practice, while allowing space to experiment with balance, placement, and the relationship between forms. The composition introduces a subtle tension between the two animals—one alert and aware, the other more relaxed in its presence.

This contrast creates a quiet dialogue within the painting, where stillness and attention sit side by side. The work moves beyond observation, becoming a study of interaction, space, and the dynamics held between two forms.

In many Asian cultures, objects and subjects are often presented in pairs. This reflects a way of thinking that values balance, harmony, and relationship—where meaning is found not in a single form, but in the dialogue between two.

Pairs can suggest companionship, contrast, or complement—two elements existing in tension or in ease. This approach influences how I compose my work, allowing space for interaction, where one form responds to another rather than standing alone.

Material: Ink on Xuan paper (natural fibre). Due to the nature of the material, slight texture, buckling, or creasing may occur as part of the process. Works are sold unframed and can be flattened/stretched and framed on request with additional cost. Each piece carries my red seal.
