This ongoing theme explores Irish food traditions and what nature provides here in Ireland. Total 5 paintings were part of this mussels study.

Mussels are a subject of particular interest—small, hard-shelled forms that hold an entire miniature coastline within them. Collected or prepared as food, they carry the memory of tidal edges, salt water, and coastal life.

Their surface, dark and iridescent, reflects light in subtle shifts, almost like a compressed landscape. Each shell becomes a small vessel of place, shaped by water and time.

In close-up, the mussel is no longer just food, but structure and texture—an archive of the shoreline, gathered into a single, contained form.

Size: approx 300 x 300 mm

Material: Ink on Xuan paper (natural fibre). Due to the nature of the material, slight texture, buckling, or creasing may occur as part of the process. Works are sold unframed and can be flattened/stretched and framed on request with additional cost. Each piece carries my red seal.
